What Is Trachoma?

The infection targets the conjunctiva, the thin membrane that lines the inside of the eyelids and covers the white of the eye. With each new infection, the inner surface of the eyelids becomes roughened and inflamed. Over time and with repeated reinfection, scar tissue builds up on the inner eyelid.
